I've looked into it a bit. With a MAP sensor, an inexpensive PIC
microcontroler, and a few other parts you should be able to do it for less
than $30. For a one off type of deal, though, spending the money on the
MSD unit may be justified. The real win would be if a group of people
could benefit from the design (ie make it freely available to the list /
public).
