Throttle by wire: benefits

The real benefit of throttle by wire is the ability to control the transient
response of both the fuel and the air. A traditional "engine fuel control"
system allows the driver to control throttle position and lets the efi
controller respond with the proper amount of fuel. The alternative, "engine air
control" allows the driver to control the fuel flow (or fuel pulse width), and
lets the efi controller respond with the proper throttle angle. Of course, the
controller is really controlling both air (throttle servomotor) and fuel (fuel
injector), but among the many benefits is the ability to run rich in a transient
by slowing down the response of the throttle motor. The throttle response
algorithm can be manipulated to give the driver the feeling he desires, and no
fuel enrichment is necessary.
