Note that this was written in 1994.

There are other CPUs which are more useful for F1 type of applications, such as
the Motorola MPC556.  It has a total of 70 channels, with 36 being a/d and all
being HSI or HSO capable IIRC.

The Hitachi H8/3687 is very similar in league with the processor you mention.

And it costs around $6.
