Too often vendors, tend to be power freaks.
They clutch their products so tight, and so few get used, they stay unknown.
For any product to be widely accepted, the info., must get out that the
product works. OR, in the case of the eec, that they can be made to go fast
with drivibility. There will always be the *hackers*, and DIY'ers, but
companies tend to just see everyone as a potential customer, and they're
not. The DIYers, in general aren't going to worry about feature creep and
pretty screens, for running an editor. They will bare bones it, and get
close enough to make it manageable and workable. They will do this with or
without the vendors help. So long term all a vendor does by being tight
with info., is prolong the products time to go critical mass for word of
mouth, and sales. There are some products that are just software, and they
are the exception to the rule, but as far as tuning stuff, the key is
getting it known that a Ford ecm can be readily tuned to run a car in the
10s, and then the sales will follow.
Then there are the vendors, that hype vaporware, and when they do get them
shipable, everyone is burnt out on hearing that the product was just vapor
to begin with.
They can also think that tuning stuff is like a refrigerator and that
everyone will eventually have to have one, which is miles from the truth.
But, I doubt any will change so, it's situation normal
