Greg, Although I agree with your first 2 comments/observations, there is
a sheer and blatant error of logic in your last para above !

Whether you draw off liquid from the bottom or gas from the top, the
tank will reduce its pressure therefore it will get cooler, it doesnt
turn into an ice ball...

To suggest you wouldnt get enough to run the engine if drawing gas from
the top yet its enough to turn it into an 'ice ball' versus drawing more
gas (as a liquid) from the bottom is preposterous !

If anything the tank is going to get cooler the more you draw from it
a the presure will drop - so clearly if you draw less then the engine
needs by drawing gas from the top instead of liquid from the bottom
then its shouldnt run colder <sigh>
