[Diy_efi] Triac versus Relay - Knowledge please!

A Triac or SCR, once fired, will never turn off till power 
is removed from the circuit.  They are not very useful 
for DC applications. 

The contact of a relay will not in itself generate a voltage 
spike.  The coil will do some, but most things (including 
DIY-WB) are equipped to handle much worse (like your 
starter).
