[Diy_efi] Oval throttle linkage

Derek,

Most all efi cars and bikes use a cam-shaped throttle linkage. The lower
horsepower Asian cars are infamous for using about half the throttle travel
in the first inch of pedal depression. This, combined with a tight torque
converter, makes them feel "peppy" around town. The rest of the throttle
travel, the noise gets a bit louder, but the car doesn't go any faster.

The high-end European cars, especially the old Porsche 944, had just the
opposite. The throttle pulley was extremely egg-shaped, so it opened slowly
at first, so wheelspin could be modulated in rain or snow. After the first
inch or so, then it became linear. The aftermarket sold round pulleys so it
would feel more Asian!

thnx, jv.

I was reading about the Kawasaki ZX12R bike, and noticed it made mention of
a
oval shaped throttle linkage. They claim it gives more precise control at
low
throttle openings, with increased opening rate as you get more towards WOT.
Makes sense. Anyone do anything like this for a car? Maybe help me out in
determining the best shape to use?
