Aren't the throttle bodies from the Caddy 4.9 engines equipped with cam
linkage? Those engines use a TBI TB on a port intake. Some
modifications could allow an injector pod to be installed.
A fair amount of response can be dialed out of the tune if you have
access to the prom. By making the timing table relatively flat,
increasing the tps and/or time delay values before PE mode is enabled,
and reducing or eliminating the timing added in PE mode, a person can
really increase an engine's response time.
Carby backup might be neat for waaay off-road drivers. The electric
fuel pump seems to be the most commonly replaced part in an efi system.
O2 sensors are probably next, although considering OBDII's
hyper-sensitivity, many are probably still serviceable in older
vehicles. Other than that, EFI reliability seems to be very good to me.
