One of the principles of good engineering is redundant systems and your idea
is a great example. Good idea.

Subject: [Diy_efi] Strange EFI
I have not been very happy with the throttle response of a
single stage throttle body on an engine over 400 cu in. Its
just too tricky to avoid spinning the tires every time you start
off. I know some have come up with a cam on the linkage
to vary the rate of rotation to throttle movement.
I have been thinking about using a stripped Q-Jet to get its
nice progressive linkage response. And everything already
fits my cars; linkage, intake, air cleaner. Just add some
port injectors. But wait! If a Q-Jet is bolted up there, and
the EFI quits, I could just hook up the fuel line and I have
a carb back up system! Maybe need to drop in a different
distributor base, carry that with the fuel line. The carb fuel
linesand pump are already there, a booster/reservoir up
front could supply injectors from the same pump.
