AAUX is the broadcast code (BCC).  That's a specific calibration.  At
one point the idea obviously was that a vehicle would use a certain
broadcast code.  When the part needed to be replaced, it would always
use that one broadcast code.  The parts counter guy would be able to
look up if there was a newer version of AAUX and provide that.  That's
why there is also a number on the PROM.  (That number is the last four
digits of a GM part number.)  The update would say AAUX but have a
different number.

In reality, most PROM updates end up with a new broadcast code -
probably because the update might not have a full 1:1 correlation with
the original part.

BTW, other vehicle parts also have broadcast codes - stuff like carbs,
check valves, air pumps, and so on.

You won't find the broadcast codes listed in a shop manual.  You'd need
a parts counter manual to look them up.  There are some BCCs listed on
my web pages - generally of PROMs I've pulled from actual ECMs.
