Hi Tim and everyone else;
This is my first post so let me introduce myself. My name is
Carlos Murillo and I am an engineering professor; I've worked
on issues related to engine control in the past. We tend to
use time-averaged models for this sort of thing; control-oriented
models tend to be as simple as possible while still capturing
the essence of the physics involved in the process.
There are still some old simulink models at The Mathworks' ftp site
ftp://ftp.mathworks.com/pub/contrib/v4/simulink/automotive.zip
These models are fairly general but you'll need to adjust the
parameters to fit your own engine, and this is not trivial.
Also, because they use and old Simulink format, some work
is required before they can be used in newer Matlab/Simulink versions.
They should load on simulink, but then you will have to adjust many
simulink parameters that did not exist back then.
Nowadays there are some commercial MATLAB-based products also:

Regards,
carlos.
