DH,
Don Sauman and I have settled out of court. My original note was flaming him for not cutting you some slack for an honest error. We're ALL DONE now. Back to work, everybody, nothing to see here.

Wow, you really showed me. Mr. Buckler meet Mr Sauman. I'm proud of my detractors.

Don,
You may be right, but why parade the righteousness along with it? The first writer made an honest mistake, but your little "I'm brilliant and anyone less so should kiss my ass" act was intentional. My condolences for your low-class upbringing.

Then I would ask you and the Army if you've ever heard of a buzz box? You know that device that was put on the Model T's for ignition purposes. It just kept putting out sparks asynchronously until one of them happened to ignite the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. The low RPM engine had multiple sparks and the fuel would ignite before optimum firing time and burn very slowly until the compression came up and the combustion speed increased. The timing of the engine was actually determined by compression pressure. Problem was that the timing changed due to fuel, throttle opening and a number of other FIRST ORDER factors.
What a load of unmitigated BS.
My comments in the extract below are in < >.
Ford Ignition
I refer you to page 1110 of Dyke's Automobile and Gasoline Engine Encyclopedia; 1923.
"The ignition system consists of:
1. A low-tension magneto of the inductor type, which is the source of electric current for the ignition.
Note. When the Ford is equipped with a starting and lighting system, the current is taken from either the battery, generator, or magneto.
2. A high-tension coil which transforms the low-tension current to a high-tension current.
3. Spark plugs, of which there are four.
4. An ignition commutator.
The Ignition Coil Box <I suspect this is what you call the "Buzz Box">
The coil box contains four high-tension (vibrator type) coil units. <Is this the original DIS> The units can be removed from the box in case one is damaged. Connections to the coil are in the rear.
The ignition Commutator
The commutator is of the roller type. It is placed on the end of the cam shaft, that is, the roller mechanism is attached to the end of the cam shaft and revolves with it. Therefore the roller revolves at half the speed or revolutions of the crank shaft.
The roller makes contact with the insulated contact points, of which there are four, and which do not revolve. When the roller comes in contact with one of the four insulated contact points, the coil unit connected with it becomes operative. As the roller leaves the contact, the coil becomes inoperative.
To advance or retard the time of spark, the housing is connected at the "pull-rod connection" with the spark lever on the steering wheel."
Please do some serious research or go away.
Don
