[Diy_efi] GM 2.5L 4 cyl

I'm a newbie to your forum.  I have a 86 Buck skylark 4 cyl engine with efi. (GM2.5L) The mechanics around here say you can only run this engine in a car.  I would like to know what basic sensors need connected to get this engine to run. I'm an old style shade tree mechanic and the shop manual is somewhat intimidating. Is there a minium electronic way to get this engine running? I have the engine; wiring harness, computer , gas tank and fuel pump.  with my limited expertise in electronics  should I sell the engine for scrap and start over with an engine with simpler electronics!  I've tried to convert to hei dist. in a 1978 model but it doesn't match up with the efi dist.  Does anyone have any constructive suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.  thanks
