Hi Dave, welcome aboard.
Your question about advancing the ignition had me stumped for a 
while to.
How can you advance something in time, when it just occurred?

If you take the pulse from the previous point in time , add the 
correct amount of time
to it, (the EM calculates) you get the spark occurring when you 
want it.

Can't help with the marrying of Toyota ign to GM ECM. Might be 
worth considering
GM 3800 V6 DFI.
