I'm not much help on the TPI, but Rick is right about torque and low end response. I do know the parts will run you more but you can get some real good deals on Evil Bay. I've heard TPI is not as 'forgiving' when it comes to programming. I can't attest to that since I haven't converted to it. What I can tell you is that the TBI is cheaper and very easy to install. It doesn't have quite the low end torque as TPI, but it will change fuel economy and throttle response. I converted my '85 3/4 ton Suburban with a SB400 and went from 12mpg to 15-16mpg towing, depending on how I drive. Keep in mind I built the rig's drive train to run the motor in the middle of it's torque curve. You can change your intake to aftermarket or search Evil Bay or wrecking yard for the BB heat riser/adapter the came from the factory and allowed the TBI unit to bolt directly to a stock or aftermarket four bbl. You'll also need a stock 5.7l TBI unit and ECM. You can get the ECM from NAPA for about $75 (plus
core) or the junk yard. Wiring harness from Painless or the 'yard. If you get it from a 'yard, you will need to modify it and remove some plugs. It's actually very simple. A fuel pump (18-20psi) from NAPA, $65. There are a few other things in the conversion, but that should give you an idea. If you decide to go TBI, I can walk you through the conversion. There are a few good guys out there who can convert the ECM to 'flash' programming making programming and editing a lot easier. HTH, Ski

Has anyone setup both types of fuel injection are the costs for TPI a lot greater.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of TBI and TPI

I'm considering going with FI because I'm hoping to get better fuel economy, better drivability, more torque and horsepower if possible.

I don't want to change the heads on the engine just the intake.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks...
