Embedded ROM replacement

Electronics gurus:

Is there any *easy* way to replace the embedded ROM 
in a '7148 with something I can program?  From looking 
at Ludis's page, it would seem the embedded ROM is 
contained in special Delco specific chips. I would like to 
alter some of the embedded code if possible.

Maybe I can just cut a couple traces and hang an EPROM 
off the test connector??
