This should interest tedscj at aol.com most. But I thought
I'd put it here in case someone else were interested.
While toying around with my Buick GN's 7148 code, I
happened to notice that the base spark reference angle
offset constant in the eprom is set to 70 degrees.
This is mildly interesting because it implies to me
that the ecm probably uses the same hardware/code as
is used in dissy applications since it appears to be
taking the built in 10 deg advance and adding another
60 deg to logically "invert" the signal.
Fwiw the maximim allowable spark retard constant,
relative to the above setting was set to 66.4 deg.
Hope this offers some insight. When I get a chance,
I want to poke around in my dissy 8625 code and see
what it's spark reference angle offset is set to.
On a similar but different note, I've obtained a
optical sensor for possible use in modifying a dissy
distributor into a cam sensor for a DIS. Not being
an electronics guru, does anyone have any hints or tips
-Mike
