Hardware needed for burning chips

 I have downloaded the C.A.T.S softwear and would like to know if the burner
can download  an existing chip (before editing) or do I need to go with a
programer. Also on a 27C256 eprom is this the number for the memcal + eprom
package or just the eprom and the memcal is separate. Since the eprom is
soldered in the memcal I would think it would fall under one part #? BTW the
ecm is a #16159278 for a 92 Y body.
