7783 Compatibility Question

Hi Guys,

I was looking at carparts.com in the salvage section and
for an ECM for my 87 Century with a 1227783 it came up with
several different computers. It found a couple of 783s in a
1987 Olds 88 and 98 3.8s, a couple 730s in 1989 and 1993 Beretta
2.8s, a 748 in a 1991 Cav 4-151, a 16198264 in a 1988 Olds 88
3.8, and a 16198262 in a 1991 Cav 4-151.

My 783 is listed on the DIY site as being similar to the
GN 148, but it was the 1986 Century that used the 148 and I
have never seen the 783 and 148 X-referenced.

Ok, enough numbers. Will a 730 bin work in my 783? I mean
if the plug is the same, are the pin functions determined in
some part (rearanged) depending on the bin? I will look for
myself tonight as I printed the wiring diagram for a
1990 Firebird with a 730 from the site. I will compare it to
my Buick diagram when I get home. I thought the 730 used a
bigger eprom than my 32k in the 783. I don't think mine has
VATS either. The reason I'm asking is it would be nice to
start with an already hacked 730 bin. Several of you seem
to be working on them.

PS. Thanks for posting my 7783 "akay" bin on the site. I
have not played with it that much yet. I just used the
little .ecu file that came with promedit. My ftp access
seems to be working again.
