Found my notebook, you were absolutely right Grumpy, no wiring changes. 
Chance code, reboot, drive!

There were wiring changes... but it had to do with tricking the ECM into
thinking it had a transmission, not necessary if you have a car attached
to your engine :)  Totally unrelated.  Thanks for keeping me in check
