One more note, Ross. I noticed that I committed with an error in my
description. ;) I had forgotten about RS232 levels and inverting, etc...

With the way the 4-transistor circuit is designed, a "high" on the single
wire line will give you a "high" on the input to the RX line. So, I lied -
you need the 4 transistors for non-inverting, or just 2 transistors for an
inverting circuit.

Sorry if this is confusing. My brain's full of dust (trying to finish
remodeling the kitchen so I can crank up on the car projects =8^D).
