Rich in closed loop idle

Question for the experts. 89 Vette 7165 ECM (MAF)

Say you are rich in closed loop idle. How do you know if O2 is cold? Say
car has a mild cam with more duration than a stock cam and runs 50 psi fuel
pressure. At idle in closed loop, the car puffs some black smoke and
"sounds" rich since its lumpier than usual. Exhaust smells strong like
excess fuel.

What table is modified to reduce the amount of fuel at open loop idle? Is
it the Open Loop AFR %Change vs. Temp? If not what table is it?

Thanks,

Jason Norris
