I have had both on my GP at one time, in an effort to calculate VE using
MAF airflow. The MAF airflow has a lot of "jitter" in it. With a
10kHz 170 gps (max) MAF, the calculated VE would follow the table VE
fairly well, except at transient time. With sudden throttle openings,
the calculated VE would come up sharply, overshooting table VE by a
lot.
It would then settle back down after a short period. Throttle closings
were similar, only in the other direction. To me, the MAF seemed to
follow transients fairly well.

And the jitter? The biggest effect was that you had to average readings
to get airflow. I put it through a low pass filter to help smooth the
readings.
