Sounds like your compare program doesn't 'resync' itself, meaning if there
is one extra byte at the start then everything after that will be different.
You can download the latest version of Hex Workshop @
http://www.bpsoft.com/(30 day trial), that has auto resync on compare, very
handy indeed.
