eric, this system of your is for programing in vehicle, so why not use the 
vehicle power? do it in the manner like a PC backup over power. I am asuming 
that the data won't take alot to hold to a lithium batt would work for when 
its out of the car. maybe another type of battery would be better? what about 
a eeprom what would that take to make it work? just a thought.
