gm altenators...and efi

I *think* yours is similiar to the one I had in my 84 F-body, I took it to a
good local altern shop and they changed the guts of it, and walked out with
a 108 for like $40US, or about $2,400 Can..

Dunno about that, but at 8v the ecm might have had trouble with the 5v ref,
or being able to filter things depending on what took a dump in the
alternator.  Open or shorted diodes can fubar lots of stuff
