Controls timing, operates mixture control solenoid on carb, switches limited
number of solenoids on/off (usually for smog equipment).  Very rough n tough in
some aspects.  With all the outputs except the distributor disconnected, and
with 3 of 4 major sensors disconnected, the ecm is still doing its best to
control timing.  I think that's amazing.

prom from one on the side of my toolbox.  I can try to read it.

They're definitely not eproms.  Not erasable, not re-usable.
