Yes, and a very interesting powdered metal clutch that locked up when an
electrical current was applied if I recall correctly.

Honda sells/sold a car in the US with a CVT. Ford had a version of the
Fiesta or Festiva with a CVT in Europe. I think Fiat has or had a model with
a CVT (also in Europe only). I think Nissan has a CVT in use in Japan. The
problem has been torque capacity for the CVTs and the US demands higher
output engines for our market so the CVTs have been slower to come to the
US. The new Audi A6 is probably the highest torque output engine with a CVT
available (in the US or anywhere that I know of).

Many companies are looking into CVTs. Most of the systems in use now are
variations on the Van Doorne (spelling) belt type CVT. Several other designs
are being looked at including cone shaped "gears" that are moved towards and
away from each other to change the ratio (I think they call these toroidal
gears).

Just my $0.02

do an accuracy comparison between the two. -Mr

difficult to download them all, put them in a directory and grep for what
you're looking for. Or pull each one up in a text editor and risk learning
some stuff you weren't expecting to. But if lazy is your middle name and
you're looking for a Motorola document, why not go to the Motorola web site?
Although annoying that they often change it, the search function does work
there. Or does AOL, have that blocked as well? -Mr
