Hector, you are correct. The factory scan tool couldn't communicate either 
without a "Pin E" adapter. All it does is join the data stream from terminal 
"E" to terminal "M." On my own vehicles or friends, I just added the terminal 
or switched it so the adapter wasn't necessary.
