Torque converter problems?

   The mid-80s 200-4R trannys are known for this as well.  My old '85 CCC'd Monte SS had the same problem...replaced the TCC solenoid and changed the tranny fluid, and all was well.  To diagnose on a 700-R4, you can probably disconnect the TCC plug to see if the problem goes away, but don't drive it that way for long, because they overheat and self-destruct in short order with the lockup disconnected.  
   A good test to see if the lockup is engaging/disengaging is to drive approx. 45-50 mph, and tap the brake pedal.  If the RPMs rise, the lockup is functioning as it's supposed to.
