code 44 - why?

I don't know the answer offhand (I'm still a rookie).  If I were you, I'd try 
another chip with a 305, A4 calibration.  I don't think the TCC in your 
tranny will lock/unlock with an M5 cal.  Unless, of course, you also 
converted your Monte to a 5-speed and didn't tell me. :)
