Nope, not a chance Mark, IMHO. Give me a moment. He said in that same
post that he was "making the point" that in his opinion, a project could
remain "diy" while allowing for compensating those who offered to do
"extra work". That post of his was definitely promoting the idea of
"cost-plus" to provide "compensation". Here is the quote:

>I'm doing it to make the point that DIY
>does not have to mean people are not recompensed for extra work
>they offer.

The idea that Peter is trying to promote is the idea of "value added".
But you can hardly promote that honestly, when the original "value
adders" have said that since they are giving the thing out without any
form of compensation other than thanks and good will, that nobody down
the line is to do any differently. It's their call. They could have
stipulated a "gnu" policy, that would even allow for people charging for
"service & support", but the point is...they didn't. Clearly the intent
was not only to keep the intellectual property completely free, but
*also* to prohibit any attempts to charge for any follow-on "value-added
services". I personally like their idea even better than a "gnu" one,
because it keeps the entire thing completely non-commercial, not just the
original design, but again, whether I like it or not, it's their call as
to what kind of EULA if you will, that they want, and not mine. The
reason I find Peter's manuevers objectionable is that he seems to want to
argue with the original team over their wishes and intended EULA. To me,
that's what piracy is all about.

Again, seems to me it is simply a case of whether you have the personal
integrity to honor the spirit and intent of the original team. Tough one
for some, I guess.

So that is why I think your impression about Peter's position being
tongue in cheek, is in error Mark, IMHO. Hope you see what I mean,
especially from Peter's quote above.
