This is almost exactly how my P4 works. The only notable difference appears 
to be the ALDL 'one shot' stuff. If I understand right, the C3's have a 160 
baud ALDL protocol, and so the CPU 'manually' transmits one bit per kernel 
loop. The P4 has a 'real' hardware UART which transmits at 8192 baud, and 
most of the processing for this is handled in a separate interrupt 'thread' 
as I explained yesterday.

All the rest of bobs 'Kernel 101' looks spot on to me.
