[Gmecm] EST on the 808/165

It's a stock N13 Pulsar (APZH $54). It generally happens between 3 and
5000 RPM but it has happened as low as 2, maybe lower. Generally when
it does it, the car will not really rev. I assume this is because it's
only getting the static 10deg of timing when not in EST mode. No error
codes.

I just idled it last night logging the data and fiddling with cables etc
but could not seem to find a dodgey connection that would make it come
good.

I pulled the multimeter out again and (according to the Gregory's
manual) there should be less than 500ohm resistance between D4 on the
connector and earth. When I originally measured, it was, but now it's
about 2.5Kohm. The other end of D4 goes to terminal D on the 4pin of
the ignition module.

Does this indicate that the module has expired or just the loom?

My multimeter wires were not long enough to test the wires 'end to end'
for resistance. I was going to try to do it this arvo with some extra
wire.

Thanks for your help,
Andrew

Are you getting any error codes ?
Does it only happen at 3k ? or does it happen higher than that.

Any additional info about the application ?

John

Subject: [Gmecm] EST on the 808/165

Guys,

            I've got a bit of a question. I have an 808 based 4Cyl car
and for some reason it keeps misfiring at about 3K+. It's an
intermittent fault too.

I've replaced dizzy cap, rotor, plugs, leads and ignition module and the
problem remains. The problem actually seemed to worsen when I replaced
the ignition module so I swapped it back. I'm not getting any ECM codes
though.

I have now started to log the data from the ECM to look into this
further and have noticed a couple of things that do not seem right.

1) Around (not at) the time that it tends to misfire, the O2 goes
to 0 (single wire 02)

2) The EST flag is constantly changing with engine running

Now, according to the doco that I have, if the engine is above 400rpm
EST should be enabled i.e it's only in fixed mode when cranking. Does
this mean that I've found the problem? What about the o2?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

            Andrew
