[Gmecm] Bellhousing Design-Iron Duke

For those who are getting a little excited here, let me shed some light. GM made 3 different bellhousing designs. The Chev/GMC which can easily be identified as being the same as a sbc 350. The Olds/Pontiac/Buck/Cadillac which has the same width as a sbc but looks like a Y on top. Both of these are strictly rear wheel drive bellhousings EXCEPT on the THM425 trans for early fwd caddy and olds with a V8. The last is the Front wheel drive design which also was used in the S10 series trucks with a 2.5L or 2.8L engine. It looks like a trapeziod.

The Iron Duke 2.5L was manufactured with the Chev/GMC design bellhousing for AMC to use in the Jeeps and with the fwd design for everything else. As many of you have pointed out this makes putting a different engine in a Jeep very easy. It is probably because AMC also offered the GM 250 inline 6 cyl as an option for a while. Using the Chev/GMC design made less work and parts at the assembly line. :)

The Y bellhousing (usually reffered to as a OPB) was discontinued in the 80's. The other 2 are still in production.
