I think a point we're overlooking is that it's bad welding practice not
to attach the ground as close to the work as possible. As in, attaching
it to the chassis when welding the exhaust = bad.
I'm another who's welded chassis and exhausts and never had a problem. I
agree with leaving the battery in and connected for exactly the reason
Doug mentions.
