Some of the advantages are...
- less potential for cross-fire
- increased timing accuracy due to elimination of distributor gear drive 
system
-primary current (and thus delivered secondary energy) is generally higher 
than HEI
-longer dwell periods
-with 3 coils there's more recovery time
