General Questions

I'm a new user to this group, and i've got a few general questions about EFI
in general:

I have an '86 Mazda Familia DOHC turbo 4wd with a b660 computer in it. i've
had a look at the data on the chip, and have obtained a 'hot' chip with
different data on it, which had modified data only in one certain area,
which i assumed to be the fuelling info. i noticed the values in this area
were all higher than the standard computer, and there were 3?? distinct
curves. are these curves for different engine loading?? i also noticed
there are only 16 or so values in each curve, which seems fairly crude to
me, if each of these values represents an RPM range.

when are the fuelling maps actually used??? can't the amount of fuel
required be derived from the maf/map sensor and o2 sensor for fine tuning???
this would be fine for cruising, i guess, but i suppose you'd need a fuel
map for acceleration, etc.

finally, i'm thinking of developing a 'black box' to replace my flap-type
air flow meter with map, air temp, rpm, and throttle sensors. is it worth
the trouble of developing such a system for the performance gain of removing
the maf restriction in a 1600 turbo??? i can see it having other
advantages, such as giving the freedom to alter the fuelling at certain rpm
by fooling the standard ecu that more air is flowing. are there any other
advantages of such a system??

thanks in advance for any answers!!
