Direct Ignition

>From what sources may one obtain materials for the specifications relating
to, and the fabrication of, a direct injection ignition system.  I have
heard "Small" Coils for each cylinder mentioned, the reason is clear, but
I'd like a little technical background or some paper citations if anyone
has this.
