Wow, that was a slam LOL.  I actually liked their book, and as you said, its
for beginners.  I bought it because I wanted the theory about switching power
supplies.  For my car project I need to build a +5 at 20A, +12 at 5A, -5 at 2A,
-12V at 1A power supply, and was trying to find one in the book.  I built most
of the examples in the book, and they work, though not very efficiently
comparied to what I expected.

The reason for this design requirement is I wish to put into the vehicle a PC
system board.  My original thinking was to utilize a notebook PC (have
existing already) however using a PC system board makes the thing more
repairable later on, and I have loads of spare parts.  Its was my initial
intention to utilize this PC for engine management (ECM) (see, this is not
THAT off topic!), as well as other systems in the vehicle.  I have several
digital interface cards and one 48 A/D I/O card that would be well used in
this environment.  Just haven't figured out the powersupply yet :).
