If I remember correctly J1850 is a diesel truck code, either for efi 
diesel injection (talk about injection)  or for gear synchronization 
electronically.. I can't remember... Try the SAE web page, www.sae,org   
or try PACCAR, Kenworth and Peterbuilt R&D.  Don't know their URL, but 
they are in or around Mt. Vernon WA, USA, as well as Australia The Mt 
Vernon PACCAR is a 360 area code.
