The 27 means its a standard EPROM, 28 is an EEPROM (electrically
eraseable) and 29 is a 'flash' part (like an EEPROM). The 32 is kiloBITS
of memory, usually organized x8 wide. So a 2732 is 32kbit (= 4 kbytes).
So designations go up to 512 (64kb) and then go to 010, 020, 040 and 080 (8
Mbits = 1Mbyte). There are 16-bit wide designations that are 100, 200, 400
(4Mbit = 512kwords).
If you need help on pinouts or anything, go hit the national or amd web
page.
