Hey Dan!

There are plenty of "shift kits" available for the Ford & GM 
transmissions... and while they don't exactly strengthen the gears, they do 
make the vehicle shift "quicker", which reduces the catch time on the 
little dog clutches in the auto transmission, so they last longer.

Trans kits are not that hard to install... takes a few hours, but its just 
because the parts are small and its a little tedious... doesn't require 
$500 tools or anything :)
