Good points, especially on the EFI shielding I snipped out.  One other 
thing I might mention as a side note... make sure your 7805 is a 1st rate 
unit, and not second rate.  The reason why I mention this is sometimes (not 
always) Radio Shack buys crap and blister packs them.  I've had one 
experience with a 7805 in a tiny TTL based dice roller where the 7805 
"drifted" out of spec just "because".  The second unit from Radio Shack did 
the same.  Got one at a different place, and wala, problem went away.

Still like their Optimus-7 speakers though :)

The 7805 wants a small (~.1uF) cap on the 5V output side as well. This
is to get rid of high frequency transients, so a big electrolytic won't
work on the output.
