Ford crank timing pickup

If this is the crank pickup for a CFI system (like the one used
for 302 engines), then I have played with this sensor. This
sensor (at least for my setup) yields a bi-polar symmetric pulse,
one that I would expect from a VR sensor.

The pickup is about 3 inches long, about 5/8 inches in diameter, and
has a flat "head". The entire pickup is encased in hard plastic (no
exposed metal showing, even the pole tip is covered).
