Wow... New Alfa guys here... Are you on the alfa diget too? Sorry I
cant't really help with the other (2000Twin Spark) question, but I'll
try ansewr this now and ask my mechanics about the Motronic 4.1...
Are you sure that's a backfire? If yes check ignition timing, coil and
ditributor for cracks. It could be even the first sign as your coul
going to give up.
Actually I don't think it should be a carb problem. However I recommend
to buy a carb rebuild kit, (there are some on the market here in Hungary
but I don't know what can you find where you live) and change the
necessary parts and sealants. Those webers are fine little equipments on
the suds... what engine is? 1.2, 1.3, 1.5 or 1.7?
Do U have absolutely normal idle? Is it coming more at full throttle or
around part throttle/idle? Because it's usual on dual webers, when idle
jets get fouled (until about 3500Rpm only the idle jets standing forfull
off the fuel ratio and working all the way when WOT jets kick in) it
sputters even on acceleration. Another problem is when you misalign the
fuel level (with the floating boxes *geez how should I call it in
englis) read: too low the engine does not get enough fuel during full
acceleration.
But as I said Alfas (all italian equipment) are prone to electrical
problems, so check ignition first. Please let me know about your
adventures.
