Ok so I am going to give away my age. When I got out of the service in
69 and started drag racing I stock with a 271 HP mustang convertable and
held the record for my class there was only one way to go for carbs if
you wanted to make any changes and that was with a Holly. I could change
the jets and valves and metering blocks inbetween runs and still get to
the line when my turn came back up.
Nowdays all I have to do is turn a knob to change the richness and try
it again. I will take MPFI any day of the week and the teams that are
running carbs are doing it because they are used to it. If you look at
some of the cars you will start to see EFI showing up but it is still to
much programming for the average racer. I am about to put my 64 Falcon
sedan delivery back on the street it had Holly projection on it bu I
will convert to MPFI and my GM ECM I want it to start in any weather and
run smoothly and still give me max HP. The engine has a high lift long
Duratin cam and a well built automatic to go with it. As far as I am
concerned the racing world needs to look to electronic as the answer for
that 1 tenth of a second they are looking for.
Now if I only can find a tail gate for my Falcon.
