O2 sensor mounting

I know we talked a while back about mounting O2 sensors in 18mm
no-foulers but that brings up a question, does the O2 sensor actually
have to be in the exhaust stream? I would assume so but the no-fouler
covers most of it up... Hmmmmm, thanks
