I do not know of any airplane engine that uses a ROOTS blower.
(true positive displacement would uses pistons like a shop air 
compressor)Roots, Paxton , axial, centrifugal blowers are designed 
for flow not pressure.  
Connecting the exhaust turbo too crankshaft is more efficeint than
compressing the air.
 I think capable of 40 lbs boost at takeoff using water injection
for war time emergencies.  They still use WWII airplane engines
in unlimited airplane races, and boat races, turbine thou is
showing up.
