There are three types of emulator on the market, standard hobbyist one's
that come with download software and that's all. They need the engine
switched off to download new files. Then there are ones that do the same
but they have software written to allow the data to be manipulated,
displayed in 3D, searches, map sizes, checksums etc. all written for
automotive map working. Then there are the expensive real time trace type
emulators for the serious tuner which allow changes to be made whilst the
engine is running, and display where the ecu is looking on the map.
http://www.racelogic.co.uk have two types of emulator, a cheap non real
time with map manipulation software around $250 that does
2732,2764,27128,27256,27512, an 8 bit real time emulator for around $1200
and a 16 bit real time emulator for around $2400.
